About Deliverance Temple Worship Center
Dr. Eric Willis, SR
Dr. Eric Willis, Sr. is the Senior Pastor of the Deliverance Temple Worship Center (DTWC) in the city of Oakland, California. He also currently serves as President of the District Department of Evangelism for the Church of God in Christ East Bay District, under the leadership of Superintendent Jerome Harris. Prior to joining NorCal Metropolitan Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, under the Leadership of Bishop Jerry W. Macklin, Jurisdictional Prelate, Pastor Willis was President of the State Department of Evangelism for Bishop Donald R. Murray serving proudly for four years at California North Central Jurisdiction.
Before starting DTWC, Pastor Willis served as a National Evangelist for over 30 years. He began preaching as a teenager and has had the privilege of seeing countless men, women, and children saved, healed, and delivered. Known for his charismatic and deliverance style, he operates under the anointing of the Holy Ghost and has channeled and led thousands of souls to Christ Jesus for salvation. From an early age, God opened doors for Pastor Willis to preached for many notable Pastors and ministries across the country, including the late Bishop Gilbert E. Patterson of Tennessee, the late Pastor Rosie Wallace of Philadelphia, Pastor Glenn Ratcliff of Anchorage, Alaska, Bishop Gerald Hawkins of New Orleans, Bishop Frank Gaston of Las Vegas, and a host of California Bay Area churches. In addition, he’s been the keynote speaker at many seminars, including “How to Maximize Your Time,” “The Importance of Prayer and Fasting as an Evangelist,” and most recently, “How to Be in Tune with the Revival.”
In fact, it was while preaching a revival that Pastor Willis was blessed to be introduced to his now beautiful wife and Co-Pastor Kathy Willis. Married since 1990, it is from this union that Pastor Willis has been blessed to be a proud father and grandfather.
Pastor Willis has always had a heart for youth and community, as demonstrated by his more than 20 years with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) Department of Education. It was through his tenure at OUSD that he was afforded the opportunity to leverage community resources and available programs to serve the youth, the community and the church. But his service has often taken him well beyond the city limits of Oakland. After Hurricane Katrina, Bishop Jerry W. Macklin assigned Superintendent George Murray to the relief efforts impacting New Orleans and Mississippi, where Pastor Willis was assigned for number of days to assist and provide aid to these victims. “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia” (Daniel 10:13).
A true servant and visionary, Pastor Willis strongly believes that he must work the works while it is still day for when the night comes, he can no longer work.
First Lady Kathy D. Mitchell Willis (who just prefers Sis. Kathy or Lady Kathy), is also the Co-Pastor of Deliverance Temple Worship Center. But you can always find her doing whatever needs to be done around the church. When she’s not working, she’s simply greeting and loving on the people.
Lady Kathy’s spiritual foundation was developed and molded from an early age at Metropolitan Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late, great Pastor Charles Webb. She served as an active member throughout her youth and young adult years. As a young adult, she often attended church conferences and revivals.
In fact, it was at a Church of God in Christ revival where she met a young Evangelist Preacher named Eric Willis. They were blessed to eventually become husband and wife, and recently celebrated over 20 years of marriage.
Having grown up in the church, Lady Kathy experienced many struggles in her spiritual walk, so she understands firsthand what it means to be “in the church” and still lost. It was through her own experiences and struggles that she developed a strong desire to help and encourage women. Particularly, lost women in the church and that passion extends to marriages as well. She received her coaching and counseling license from the University of the West Indies and counsels many married women in the church, specifically Ministers’ wives. Lady Kathy’s experiences were ultimately positioning her for purpose. She now leads the women’s ministry of DTWC and she is the visionary and founder of the Annual H.E.R. Women’s Conference (Healing, Empowering and Restoring).
Lady Kathy also has a strong passion for the children and the elderly. She has been teaching Children’s Sunday School for over 15 years and regularly visits rest homes to provide companionship and comfort to those who many have forgotten.
In 2016, Dr. Willis and DTWC elevated Lady Kathy to the position of Co-Pastor of Deliverance Temple Worship Center, in honor of her unwavering commitment, her compassion for people, and her devotion to both God and the church. Although she is the First Lady and operates in ministry as Co-Pastor of DTWC, to most, she’s still just “Lady Kathy” – a humble, loving, and willing servant of God.
In addition to being a dedicated servant and wife, Lady Kathy is the proud mother of four adult children, Marquita, Johnna, Ericka, and Eric Jr (EJ) and grandmother to seven grandchildren.
Our Church History
Ain’t No Stopping Us Now, We’re on the Move!
Dr. Eric was a National Evangelist preaching all over the United States. He’s had the privilege of seeing countless people saved, healed, and delivered. After 32 years of preaching and evangelizing, Dr. Willis received a Word from the Lord that “he was to begin pastoring.” Dr. Willis was an anointed preacher, but this was out of his comfort zone, so he did not respond very quickly. After 5 years and much wrestling with the Lord, he finally surrendered and told the Lord “Yes, I will pastor.” He sought the counsel of his pastor, Bishop Donald R. Murray, and several other leading pastors. Once he received their blessings and support, he then shared the news with his family.
Pastor Willis had great support from his family and the people around him. And on October 12, 2011, Deliverance Temple Worship Center Inc, Church of God in Christ (DTWC) was founded. After much prayer, fasting and planning, Pastor Willis held our first organized service on June 8, 2012 in Hayward, CA, his parents’ living room with the love and support of his mother, the late Mother Edna Willis. He preached the Gospel, laid hands, served communion and shared the vision that God had given him. Pastor Willis was stepping out on faith when he said we would not be in his parents’ living room for long. He declared, “We will be in a building soon.” That service was filled with such high praise and the Lord moved in such a powerful way that Pastor Willis’ father, after many years, was reclaimed and later became the Head Deacon at DTWC.
We were excited about what the Lord was doing, and was faithful in our attendance and giving. Five months later, we moved to our second location, 8080 Capwell Drive in Oakland, CA. The Lord continued to bless, save, heal and add new members. The Lord then moved upon Pastor Willis’ heart and let him know that he would not be in that location very long either. And about nine months later, the Lord blessed us to move to 2258 62nd Avenue in Oakland, CA. Our first service held in this building was on October 6, 2013. In that service, God move in a mighty way, letting us know how blessed we were to be walking in His favor.
What the devil meant for evil, God turned it around for our good. In April 2015, after a year and a half, we turned in the keys and Pastor Willis said, “We’re stepping out on faith again.” With Pastor being a visionary and an anointed leader, like his father in the Gospel, Apostle Ray Mack, we stepped out on faith and followed our pastor. God still showed us favor. Our District Superintendent, Dr. George M. Murray was so hospitable to allow us to share their building on Sundays for two months. And our sister church, True Word allowed us to have bible study and prayer in their building on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But Pastor Willis kept saying, “God is going to bless us and we are not going to be here for long.” Then in June 2015, the Lord said it was time. He blessed us to purchase our first edifice at 1157 88th Avenue in Oakland, CA. And now DTWC can say this is how new home for now.
As you know, Pastor Willis is still seeing a greater vision and we can’t wait to see what else the Lord has in store for us. To God be the glory for the things He has done.
In memory and dedication to our beloved Church Mother…
